Unique facilities and capabilities

We are unique among type approval authorities because we operate our own in-house technical service and proving ground. We also offer the flexibility to supervise tests at your location or in third-party testing laboratories, ensuring that all testing meets EU and UNECE regulations.

Accredited test center

Our proving ground, established in 1980, has been accredited under ISO 17025 for over 30 years, reflecting our commitment to maintaining the highest levels of competence and quality in testing. Over the years, the RDW Test Centre has gathered extensive experience and expertise, making it a trusted, independent test laboratory for vehicle technology with a unique combination of services and products under one roof.

Our team is always ready to collaborate with customers, offering expert guidance and tailored solutions to meet specific testing requirements. At the RDW Test Centre, you can access homologation tests, obtain national and international certificates, and conduct your own Research & Development activities

The future

We are currently developing a new test center: MITC (the Mobility Innovation and Testing Center). This facility will not only expand our testing abilities, but also foster collaboration with other key entities. MITC will house the Dutch Aerospace Authority, wind tunnels for aerodynamic testing, and a test track dedicated for use by the police. This convergence of different disciplines creates opportunities for innovation and cross-industry collaboration with the automotive sector.

Expanded testing abilities

The new test track at MITC will be longer, allowing for more comprehensive testing, particularly in the areas of Automated Lane Keeping Systems (ALKS), Automated Driving Systems (ADS), and Advance Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Additionally, there are plans to establish an emissions and sustainability lab.

Our commitment to quality is proven: we are accredited according to ISO/IEC 17020 and 17025, and hold an ISO 9001 certification. Appointed by the RDW authority, we are authorized to carry out EU and UNECE homologation tests. In addition, we are officially designated by both Taiwan and Australia to conduct vehicle testing. The scope of the RDW technical service (dienst wegverkeer) accreditation can be found on the website of the Dutch Accreditation Councel.

As an integral part of the Dutch Type Approval Authority, we have direct access to the departments responsible for issuing certificates and overseeing Conformity of Production (COP). Our close collaboration with policymakers and Dutch representatives in Brussels and Geneva ensures we are always aligned with the latest developments in European legislation and regulations.
