Testing and homologation

The homologation process for vehicle manufactures starts with a positive Conformity of Production review by RDW. This includes providing all relevant technical documentation, so RDW can determine that the manufacturer's quality management system is in order. Once positively reviewed, the manufacturer can proceed with testing vehicles, vehicle components, or vehicle driving systems.

RDW Technical Service, or another designated Technical Service approved by RDW, can help conduct these tests at the RDW Test Center or at the manufacturer’s premises. All tests are conducted in accordance with EC/ECE standards and individual testing.

The public road tests are conducted in a safe and responsible manner.
Suitable locations are selected (there are no pre-designated test areas in the Netherlands).
Specific conditions regarding operational domain, insurance, driver requirements, lessons learned and data sharing are clearly defined.
