RDW Designated as Technical Service for UK Vehicle Approvals
As of April 2026, the RDW has been officially designated by the UK Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) as a technical service authorised to perform the tests required for approving vehicles and vehicle components for the UK market.
This designation means that the VCA will now accept RDW test reports relating to European type‑approval regulations, expanding RDW’s role in international vehicle compliance.
Broader Market Access for Manufacturers
With this recognition, manufacturers gain streamlined access to both the European and UK markets through a single trusted testing partner. RDW already performs all required tests for European type approvals, supporting manufacturers of complete vehicles, systems and components around the world.
Unique In‑House Technical Service
RDW is one of the few type‑approval authorities in Europe operating its own in‑house technical service. Backed by decades of track‑testing expertise, RDW delivers:
- A fully accredited ISO 17025 test centre (operational for over 30 years)
- Global testing and supervision at RDW facilities, manufacturer locations or third‑party labs
- Comprehensive EU and UNECE homologation testing across vehicle technologies
This combination of expertise and flexibility makes RDW a reliable partner for manufacturers navigating complex international regulations.
Strengthening Innovation: MITC
RDW is also expanding its testing capabilities through the Mobility Innovation and Testing Center (MITC). This new facility will include:
- A longer, more advanced test track
- Test environments for ALKS, ADS and ADAS
- A planned emissions and sustainability laboratory
